Eighty-one people – 41 males and 40 females – tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) on Tuesday, December 21, from the 1 156 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.
The new cases comprised six people under the age of 18, and 75 who were 18 years and older.
There were 144 people in isolation facilities, while 974 were in home isolation.
Two women lost their lives to COVID-19. A 65-year-old presented dead on arrival at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department on December 13, and an 83-year-old died at the Harrison’s Point Isolation Facility on Monday, December 20. They were both unvaccinated.
As at December 21, there were 258 deaths from the virus.
The public health laboratory has carried out 461 703 tests since February last year, and recorded 27 389 cases (13 018 males and 14 371 females) of COVID-19.
Under the National COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign, the total number of people with at least one dose is 155 383 (68 per cent of the eligible population).
The total number of people who are fully vaccinated is 142 528 (52.6 per cent of the total population or 62.4 per cent of the eligible population).
