Unruly behaviour by public service vehicle (PSV) operators on the roads of Barbados will not be tolerated, warned Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes yesterday.
“Too many times we are getting complaints about this behaviour from the PSV sector. You are not going home today. I am willing to listen to you and whatever else you have to say, but you will be remanded,” he told ZR driver on the Redman’s Village, St Thomas route, Shamon Alan Justin Lowe, and car washer Dario Jamar Cheltenham in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court.
He had just listened as prosecutor Constable Ralph Rollock and the two detailed instances of route taxis overtaking and blocking each other on the road, and of Lowe slapping another driver with a cutlass and Cheltenham punching that other driver in the stomach.
Cheltenham, 28, of Phillips Road, St Stephen’s Hill, Black Rock, and Lowe, 34, of President Kennedy Drive, both in St Michael, had pleaded guilty to assaulting route taxi driver Ramon Marshall on December 22. (HLE)
