Bowen tops overseas Bajan jockeys

The United States-based Rocco Bowen dazzled at every track on which he competed at in America last year to be the leading Barbadian jockey for 2021 on the international horse racing circuit.

Bowen, who won a hat-trick of titles at Emerald Downs from 2016 to 2018, enjoyed another prolific year, with 84 victories at a win percentage of 13, while earning US$2 219 113 last year.

The 31-year-old, of Bridge Gap, Black Rock, St Michael, took the Kentucky Downs Mint Million Stakes astride Betwithbothhands at Ellis Park and the Longacres Mile Handicap Grade 3 race with Background at Emerald Downs as his major wins last year.

He also won the Fitz Dixon Jr Memorial Juvenile Stakes with Longshadow at Presque Isle Downs and the Hatoof Stakes with Core Values at Allington. (LY)
