Mia rejects despot talk

Who they calling despotic?

That was the question a fired-up Barbados Labour Party leader Mia Amor Mottley asked on Sunday night as she defended her leadership.

She also lambasted the leader of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) as well as some of its senior members who she said will be fighting among themselves to take over the reins of the party come January 20.

For the first time since former Prime Minister Owen Arthur called her a “despot” six years ago and with the video resurfacing this General Election, Prime Minister Mottley seemed to address the issue in an indirect way when she spoke during the party’s official manifesto launch on Sunday.

First, she addressed what she said were disparaging remarks made about some female candidates in her party.

“How much more of this misogyny? How much more of this woman-hating? Do you understand they doing it to your daughters, they doing it to your mothers, they doing it to your grandmothers,” she declared.

“I went through ten years of it in this country. It is true some come from within. The very same from within are the ones who are gone,” she said. (MB)
