Olympic quarter-miler Jonathan Jones is out of the blocks with a bang for the 2022 collegiate track and field indoor season, clocking a new national record in the men’s 600-metre event.

The 21-year-old Barbadian, a senior at the University of Texas, captured silver in 1:15.61 minutes at the Clemson Invitational in South Carolina over the weekend.

Jones, who reached the semi-final of the men’s 400 metres at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, erased the time of 1:15.78 set by Tre Hinds in 2019.

Double CARIFTA Games gold medallist Jonathan Miller, competing at the same meet, captured gold in the men’s triple jump. Miller, 21, a former student of St Leonard’s Boys’ and The St Michael School, was basking in glory for the University of Florida, when he hopped, skipped, and leaped to 15.87 metres on his fifth and final attempt.
