Smooth early voting in St Philip South

Lengthy, but steadily and orderly moving queues of voters characterised the scene outside the majority of the polling stations around St Philip South in today’s general election.

There are eight polling stations scattered around the electoral constituency that sent incumbent Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Indar Weir of the governing Barbados Labour Party to parliament for the first time in the 2018 general elections.

First-timer Neil Marshall of the Democratic Labour Party, as well as repeat candidates, Bruce Hennis of the Alliance Party for Progress (APP), and Ronald Lorde of Solutions Barbados, are trying to unseat Weir

From early, a queue of about 20 people stood outside the gate of the Reynold Weekes Primary School in Four Roads, where voters in polling district PG1 were set to their votes.

The scene was practically the same at the other polling stations around the electoral district, including New Wine Ministries Church in Diamond Valley (PG2), the Church of the Nazarene in Gemswick (PF1) and Ruby (PH1), and the Christian Mission Church in Stroude Land (PG3).

Only a trickle of voters appeared at Faith New Testament Church of God in Kirtons (PF3), Rices Methodist Church (PF2), and Christian Mission Church in Jones Village (PH2) when the NATION News Network team visited.
