Construction of a new hotel on the Hastings, Christ Church site of the former Caribbee Hotel is expected to begin by the middle of this year.

This is according to the hotel’s project manager James Edghill, who told the MIDWEEK NATION on Tuesday the property, adjacent to the popular Richard Haynes Boardwalk, was purchased by a regional developer who plans to build a 120-room, internationally-branded, four-star hotel there.

He added that the construction, expected to take 18 months, would be “a major investment into the South Coast and would provide a needed facelift to the Hastings area, along with added hotel inventory and . . . opportunities to patrons of the South Coast”.

Edghill was speaking after demolition work began Monday night on the decades-old Caribbee building, which was once a premier hotel and a choice place of entertainment. (GC)
