630 COVID-19 cases on Friday

The Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory has identified 630 COVID-19 cases – 290 males and 340 females – from the 2 530 tests conducted on Friday, January 28.

The new cases comprise 122 people under the age of 18 and 508 who are 18 years old and over.

There were 152 people in isolation facilities and 9 371 in home isolation.

An unvaccinated 97-year-old woman passed away at the Harrison’s Point Isolation Facility on Friday.

The number of deaths from the viral illness stands at 278.

Since the start of the pandemic, the public health laboratory has carried out 533 050 tests, and Barbados has recorded 43 481 cases (20 193 males and 23 288 females) of the viral illness.

Under the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19, 158 539 people (69.4 per cent of the eligible population) have received first doses. To date, 147 007 people (54.2 per cent of the population or 64.4 per cent of the eligible population) have received second doses and are fully vaccinated. The eligible population represents those who are 12 years and older. (BGIS)
