Horse owner brought to tears

The memory of the way his mare was treated by a young horse thief brought tears to the eyes of the owner yesterday.

Not only did 25-year-old Taquan Emmanuel Reid ride the horse on the road until its hoofs were cracked, said horse owner Daniel Drayton, but he treated it so badly that it lost the foal it was carrying.

“She was just there in foal and I did happy,” Drayton told the District “A” Magistrates’ Court.

“Then them carry she way and when she come back, all she hooves did crack up from all ’bout the road. It really hurt me. It really, really hurt me,” he declared.

“If I did catch any of them that night, only God knows what would’ve happened. Only God knows,” he said. “The police discover the horse in Goodland and when I see the horse I cry.”

While Drayton admitted he did not want the young thief anywhere around him performing community service, he said he had no desire to see him incarcerated. He just wanted back the money he spent in vet bills. (HLE)
