A scaled-down version of the National Primary Schools’ Athletic Championship (NAPSAC) will be off and running from next month.

NAPSAC chairman Janelle Denny revealed yesterday in a press conference at the Gymnasium of the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex in Wildey, St Michael, that Government has granted permission for the staging of one of the island’s biggest athletics events.

However, the 20th anniversary of NAPSAC will see major changes due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. There will be a series of activities in the lead-up to the two main events – a zonal virtual get-moving festival from March 14 to 18 and 21 to 23, and the NAPSAC Cross Country Relay Championship at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex May 10 to 13. An awareness fun walk for special athletes is also in the works for May 7.

Denny said the change from a traditional competition format was due to students being forced to spend the first school term at home attending online classes.
