Jamaica Scorpions were 92 for two in their first innings against Barbados Pride at lunch on the first day of their second round match in the West Indies Championship on Tuesday at Kensington Oval.

At the interval, Scorpions captain John Campbell was not out on 38 and Nkrumah Bonner was not out on nine after the visitors won the toss and decided to bat.

Before lunch, Pride new ball pair of Keon Harding and left-arm pacer Ramon Simmonds were put under pressure when Campbell and Leroy Lugg batted with enterprise and shared 71 for the first wicket.

Pride did themselves no favours when third slip fielder Shamar Springer dropped Campbell, on 26, off Simmonds with Scorpions on 50 without loss inside the first hour.

But West Indies Test left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican got the breakthrough for Pride when he had Lugg caught at long-off for 39, playing a lofted drive.

Warrican, fast-medium bowler Springer, and left-arm pacer Raymon Reifer brought a measure of control, and it paid dividends for Pride seven overs later.

Springer got West Indies Test batsman Jermaine Blackwood caught at third slip for one, steering outside the off-stump.

Pride made two changes to their line-up with West Indies international Shamarh Brooks and off-spinner Chaim Holder replacing all-rounder Justin Greaves and injured pacer Chemar Holder, and Scorpions brought in West Indies international Nkrumah Bonner to replace pacer Derval Green.

Pride top the standings with 21 points after a four-wicket win over Hurricanes in the first round at Kensington Oval, and Scorpions are fifth in the table with 4.4 points after they crumbled to three-wicket defeat against Trinidad & Tobago Red Force at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad.

Summarised scores:

SCORPIONS 92 for two (Leroy Lugg 39, John Campbell 38 not out) vs PRIDE.
