Readying for school next week

Schools are making sure they are ready when the bell rings next week.

Yesterday, staff at a number of them were putting up sanitising stations and cleaning classrooms while contractors were maintaining water tanks and doing some debushing.

Barbados Union of Teachers’ general secretary Herbert Gittens said he was sure schools would be ready by Monday but it was not “a one size fits all thing” as different schools had different challenges and approaches.

At both Wesley Hall Infants School and Junior School in The City, ancillary staff were seen cleaning desks and chairs, sweeping and mopping, and washing wares.

Gittens, who is principal of Wesley Hall Junior School, said they had some electrical work done as well as painting, which had started from last year. He added they were being cautious as it related to the new school term. (CA)
