It was supposed to be just another night for 32-year-old Corey Mayers liming near his New Orleans, St Michael home on Wednesday.

Little did he know his life was about to change as two masked gunmen came inches away from taking him away from his family.

Mayers, who was shot in the chest, said: “I was outside cooling out, drinking Deputies and playing music. I was getting ready to shut off the music as it was almost 10 p.m. when I hear footsteps. When I look ’round I see two masked men, the tall one had a gun pointing at my chest,” he said.

Sporting large, partially bloody bandages on his chest and right arm, Mayers said it was quick thinking that saved his life. (CA)
