Staff at the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) completed a simulation exercise to mark National Earthquake Preparedness Day today.

They dropped, covered and held on for the simulation exercise at their Warrens, St Michael offices and then evacuated the building.

Acting deputy director Danielle Skeete said they conducted the simulations at least once a year in an effort to sensitise staff about the correct procedure to adopt in the event of an earthquake.

She added they engaged in a robust campaign and would usually spread the message through social media and the Government Information Service.

This evening, Skeete is expected to sensitise the Blackman & Gollop Primary Boy Scout Troop on the dangers and correct practices in the event of an earthquake. (RA)
