Odour forces staffers from NHC building

The National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) wants the National Housing Corporation (NHC) to ensure staff can function comfortably after workers evacuated the building on Country Road, St Michael, yesterday morning because of an odour.

General manager Ian “Cupid” Gill gave the assurance that workers’ concerns are being dealt with.

Around 11 a.m., Ministry of Housing, Treasury Department and NHC workers exited the building after the smell – which was thought to be due to a fire there on February 20 – became unbearable.

Although the Barbados Fire Service gave staff the all-clear to return to their desks around 12:20 p.m., the incident prompted a response from NUPW deputy general secretary Wayne Walrond, who joined the workers outside. (TG)
