Party boat issue on agenda

More promoters are crying out against what they deem as “discriminatory” and “inconsistent” COVID-19 vaccination protocols being imposed on crew and patrons of two popular party boats.

Their cries appear to have been heard, as a special meeting has been called with the Ministry of Health today to discuss the policies that have led to various promoters stalling the planning of events on the MC Buccaneer and the MV Dream Chaser.

In a statement signed by promoters Blurr, RBWH, Flavaa Nation, Sip & Sail, Waves, Penthouse 2.0 Events, Caribbean Vibes Boat Ride, Gems Consultancy, Maddd & Baddd, Chocolate Army Barbados, Phucket, Soka Seduction, Wick’d Intentions, Liberte, Northboy and La Vista, they said there were a number of inconsistencies in the Emergency Management (COVID-19) (Protocols) (No. 2) Directive, 2022.

The promoters said the inconsistencies related to the protocols for catamarans and other local vessels. They also pointed out that patrons did not have to be fully vaccinated or tested to enter venues such as bars and restaurants.

“Why then are crippling protocols specific to only two boats on the island? Where is the logic or consistency behind this choice?” (TG)
