Commonwealth Games-bound Jabali Breedy, Charles Cox and Kimberly Gittens will headline a seven-member Barbados boxing team at the Americas Boxing Confederation’s Continental Elite Boxing Championships in Guayaquil, Ecuador from March 22 to April 2.

For Breedy, who is currently in Washington DC training with his brother, Cobia Breedy, light heavyweight Cox and middleweight Gittens this event will serve as part of their preparation for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England in July.

They will be joined by lightweight Peter Murray, welterweight Joel Bishop, light middleweight Tyreec Taitt and rookie heavyweight women’s boxer Kemara Stuart.

The officials accompanying the boxers are head coach Gary Bowen and assistant coach Kelvin Nowell with Oliver Marshall managing the team.

The championships will provide much needed competition not only for local boxers but also for boxers from across the Americas who have not been able to compete since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Apart from Breedy, the locally-based boxers have been training at the National Stadium with a core of coaches from the BBA’s coaches commission, led by national coach, Bowen. (EZS)
