Washington – Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness is expected to hold talks with United States Vice President, Kamala Harris during a four-day “working” visit, according to US news media reports.

A brief government statement issued in Kingston said that Holness, who left the Caribbean island on Tuesday, “is expected to meet with high level officials within the US Government”.

It said he would also “have discussions with the Diaspora”, before his return on April 3.

But media reports here said that Holness is expected to meet with Harris, the daughter of a Jamaican parent.

The Miami Herald newspaper reported that Harris will “host Jamaica’s prime minister at the White House on Wednesday as part of an effort to improve the United States’ relationship with Caribbean nations”.

It said that Holness is the second Caribbean leader to visit Harris in Washington, adding that “the bilateral meeting coincides with the 60th anniversary year of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Jamaica and the United States”.

Holness will be the first Jamaican leader to visit the White House since a 1995 working visit by former Jamaican Prime Minister P.J. Patterson. (CMC)
