The dynamic Chelsea Tuach progressed to the semi-finals of the Barbados Surf Pro QS 3000 yesterday after winning her heat in the round of 16 and quarter-finals at Bathsheba Beach, St Joseph.

Tuach’s intimate knowledge of the Soup Bowl break has aided tremendously in her wave selection and general know-how as it relates to wave formation and the characteristics of the swell.

In the round of 16, the 25-year-old former junior pro winner scored 6.77 on her first wave as she thrilled spectators with her daring carves and tricks, showing a deep connection and affection with the bay.

She got a 6.83 on her third wave and at that point, her total of 13.6 was enough for the lead and the eventual victory. She was closely followed by Puerto Rican Havanna Cabrero, who scored 13.57 to advance in second spot.

In the quarter-finals, Tuach battled hard with accomplished American surfer Kirra Pinkerton, but once again her local knowledge of the Soup Bowl paid dividends. (NM)
