Cummins: More diverse BTMI board critical

The new board of directors of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc (BTMI) and the Barbados Tourism Produce Authority represents a divergence from the former make-up which traditionally reflected a focus on the hotel sector, says Minister of Tourism Senator Lisa Cummins.

Cummins told members of the media attending a recent state of the industry media breakfast that with the emphasis on “the business of tourism” in Government’s vision for the island’s main industry, more diverse BTMI representation was necessary.

She was speaking against the background of questions raised by some Barbadians following the March 11 announcement.

While welcoming members of the new board to the event, Cummins pointed out that while the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) continued to be “a standing BTMI member”, the Intimate Hotels grouping of the island’s smaller hotels had been given a seat for the first time. (GC)
