The attorney representing the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) yesterday conceded that one of the charges for which Lieutenant David Harewood was convicted was not “sustainable” or “viable”.
However, Senior State Counsel Oliver Thomas argued the other charge on which he was found guilty – that of engaging in unauthorised information gathering – was still relevant as the Coast Guard officer was not a member of the information-gathering unit and neither did he have the requisite signature to carry out such acts.
Thomas was responding to previous submissions from Harewood’s counsel, Vincent Watson, when the matter continued in the Court of Appeal yesterday.
Appealed dismissal
Harewood, who was attached to the Barbados Coast Guard, has appealed his dismissal, ordered in June 2019 by a court martial, as punishment for unbecoming behaviour that could have brought the BDF into disrepute. (HLE)
