Officials of St Catherine Cricket Club and Combermere School consider their sides fortunate to have been promoted to the Elite Division and Division 1, respectively, for this coming Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) season, starting on April 23.

The BCA said last Thursday that following a series of meetings to deal with the resumption of the play in the domestic season, the Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme (BDFSP), one of the clubs in the Elite Division, was forced to withdraw.

Consequently, local cricket’s governing body decided that St Catherine, who were demoted to Division 1 during the last full season of play three years ago before the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, will remain in the Elite Division, and Combermere School will fill the space that created in Division 1.

Re-elected president of St Catherine, Ryle Stuart, the club’s former opener, said the players welcomed the opportunity to again play in the top tier of the sport in the island. (AR)
