Some Barbadians believe masks should still be worn, but don’t believe the Government’s new ticketing system will be effective.
That was the recurring response yesterday to the recent Emergency Management (COVID-19) (Protocols) (No.6) Directive, 2022, where the system was introduced.
“If I’m around others I can understand why you’d want to fine me because people can be affected. But if I am in a public space alone or seated six feet or more from people, I shouldn’t have to put on a mask for the entire time I’m there . . . ,” Sheryl Taylor said yesterday while relaxing at Batts Rock beach, St Michael.
Carlos Best, who was also at the beach, said he agreed with the mask mandate, as it helped to reduce the spread.
“I still think that the masks have helped to prevent the spread. This is three years that we’ve been dealing with this and as an unvaccinated person, I can say I never caught it. I’ve taken numerous tests, kept up with the hand sanitising and I haven’t had any issues,” he added. (TG)
