Rain could offset Guineas Raceday

Upsets could be looming when the Barbados Turf Club stages the day-night Barbados Guineas Raceday at the Garrison Savannah from 4:15 p.m., today.

Two days of rain on Monday and yesterday will likely leave the course soft or yielding on this final day of the first season.

In such conditions, horses sink deeper into the track which then will require much more energy to run fast, thus making endurance a bigger factor than the speed of the horse.

Hence, the favourite Afternoon Delight with jockey Rickey Walcott could be vulnerable in the feature 72nd running of the Barbados Guineas – the First Jewel Of The Barbados Triple Crown – slated for 7:45 p.m. (LY)
