The National Conservation Commission has started a $6 million project which will see 20 parks, picnic spots and beach facilities being upgraded.

Last December, general manager Ryan Als announced that Government was undertaking a major project which would be done in phases and stretched across this year. It will see minor and major work being done to sites from River Bay in St Lucy to Oistins, Christ Church.

He explained that 28 structures at 24 sites would be upgraded and that the scope of work included construction of a bathroom facility and refurbishment of kiosks at Dover, Christ Church; a complete refurbishment of the public facility at Barclays Park, St Andrew; and improving the bathrooms, snackette, gazebo, staff accommodation and caretaker accommodation at Farley Hill National Park.

On Wednesday, he said the work was progressing well.

“We are working at a few places now which include the Cuban Monument in Paynes Bay, St James; and the Gazebo at Fitts Village (also in St James), which we started but plan to do the entire area. King George V Memorial Park (in St Philip), we are finishing up – we just have the bathroom to do now and the front entrance.” (SB)
