Deputy President of the Senate Elizabeth Thompson has conceded there are “attitudinal” problems associated with the level of service delivery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

While lauding the level of professionalism displayed when hospital staff are “working at their best” she also noted the treatment meted out when they are working  “at their worst,” saying:“I have equally seen some of the worst of the QEH about which we have seen people complain daily on the call-in programmes and on the streets with legitimacy.

“If we are to be honest, we can say that the hospital really does have some distance to go if we are to deliver to Barbadians and to the users of the hospital the quality of care of which we would all be proud,” Thompson said yesterday during Senate debate of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Amendment) Bill 2022.

“A lot of the problems there are in some instances attitudinal and they mirror attitudinal challenges that we have seen across the public and private service in Barbados,” Thompson said, adding: “We have a way of treating to each other with a lack of courtesy and a lack of respect and we do not seem to respect that we are there to serve.” (GC)
