The Chief Medical Officer says there are no other COVID-19 variants here other than Omicron and the highly contagious subvariant, BA.2.

Other countries are not only contending with Omicron, and its highly contagious subvariant, BA.2. but that subvariant has given rise to its own subvariants, with a growing number of new coronavirus cases in the United States.

“There were no other variants tested. Each subsequent variant tends to be more infectious than the previous variant because it is trying to survive and in its survival mode it changes its configuration usually based on the spike protein which are the covering of the virus and other changes within the configuration of the virus to make it easier to transmit and causes more rapid spread of infection,” said The Most Honourable Dr Kenneth George yesterday.

He explained that tests were sent to CARPHA which reported only the omicron and its variant were present. (AC)
