As Barbados deals with the fourth wave of COVID-19, Dodds Prison again has not been spared the infections.
However, Acting Superintendent of Prisons DeCarlo Payne said, contrary to rumours, it was not a major outbreak like what the prison had previously experienced.
“We don’t have a widespread issue here right now. Any inmates who display symptoms are isolated in a building and that was so from the time we started managing the outbreak back in December 2020. Things are under control; there are no major challenges I’m aware of, so I wouldn’t say there is an outbreak,” he said, adding he did not have the numbers of the infected to hand.
Payne said the prison was a microcosm of the larger society, so while there were flare-ups in the public domain, so too there would be flare-ups in the prison from time to time.
