From humble beginnings in the working class district of St Barnabas, St Michael, the late Justice LeRoy Inniss rose to lofty positions in Barbados but never forgot nor forsook his roots.
This aspect of the character of the retired High Court judge, former president of the Barbados Bar Association, former chairman of the Police Complaints Authority and Financial Services Commission Appeals Tribunal, was highlighted during his funeral service at St Barnabas Anglican Church yesterday.
President The Most Honourable Dame Sandra Mason, Chief Justice Sir Patterson Cheltenham, Attorney General Dale Marshall and several other members of the legal profession were among the congregation who heard Dianne Inniss pay tribute to a father who she described as “an exceptional man”.
“Winston LeRoy Inniss was an accomplished attorney, respected jurist, prolific author, influential educator, Independent senator, dedicated public servant and admired mentor. But before any of those things, he was my daddy,” Inniss said, as she shared recollections of a father and family man who found time for his children amidst a hectic work schedule. (GC)
