Director of Sport at the National Sports Council, Neil Murrell has been appointed chairman of the Anti-Doping Logic system administered by UNESCO.

He will lead a team of global national anti-doping experts to facilitate improvement to the current system and the resulting report will be presented at the Conference of Parties general assembly next year.

This is the first time a Barbadian has held this position on matters related to the International Convention Against Doping in Sport since its inception 15 years ago.

Murrell is a very experienced anti-doping practitioner, having been a former secretary of the National Anti-Doping Commission (NADC), former regional administrator of the Caribbean Regional Anti-Doping Organisation (RADO), and an international doping control officer with over 20 years’ experience.

He currently serves as a member of UNESCO’s approval committee, with Barbados representing the Americas region.

Every two years countries submit a national report concerning measures taken by them for the purpose of complying with the Convention.

The Anti-Doping Logic system is the online self-assessment monitoring tool, and compliance with the Convention is measured through 21 principal questions administered through the AD Logic questionnaire.

The AD Logic system covers the four thematic areas of the Convention, which are national activities to strengthen anti-doping, international cooperation, education and training, and research.
