COVID-19 Update for May 21

A total of 187 new cases – 74 males and113 females – were identified out of the 827 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Laboratory on Saturday, May 21.

The cases comprised 38 individuals under the age of 18, and 149 who were 18 years and older.

There were also three deaths on Saturday – an unvaccinated 75-year-old female, a fully vaccinated 94-year-old female, and an 83-year-old unvaccinated male.

Seventy-two people were in isolation facilities, while 4 210 were in home isolation.

The public health laboratory has conducted 679 628 tests since February 2020, and recorded 78 919 COVID-19 cases (36 039 males and 42 880 females).  The number of lives lost to the viral illness is 440.

Under the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19, 162 237 people (71.0 per cent of the eligible population) have received at least one dose. To date, 152 595 individuals – 66 884 males and 85 711 females (56.3 per cent of the total population or 66.8 per cent of the eligible population) – have been fully vaccinated. The eligible population represents those who are 12 years and older.  (BGIS)
