One of Combermere School’s star sprinters Jada Hynds has landed an athletics scholarship in the United States.

The Waterford-based stand-out athlete will now further develop her education and promising track and field career after committing to Western Colorado University a few days ago.

The 17-year-old who has personal best times of 12.30 seconds in the 100 metres and 25.50 over 200 metres is set to pursue an accelerated degree with a major in environmental management and sustainability and a minor in environmental science over a course of five years to achieve both bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

“I don’t think that it has really hit me yet that I’m leaving in three months but I feel very happy and very grateful. It’s definitely a step in the right direction and I believe that I’ll be able to achieve some great things while I’m over there . . . as Ross [Walrond] (Barbados CARIFTA athlete) would say, ‘look out’,” she told NATION SPORT during an interview.
