Former Wigan Athletic football captain, Emmerson Boyce, has been appointed the new technical director of the Barbados Football Association (BFA).

The news was announced moments ago by BFA President Randy Harris during a press conference.

Boyce, who won England’s most coveted football trophy – the FA Cup – in 2013 as captain of Wigan Athletic, is one of the most established players to represent Barbados in recent times. He played 12 matches and scored three goals in an eight-year international career which spanned from 2008 to 2016 for the island.

The 42 year-old currently holds the position of head of women’s football development in Barbados and has reaped success since being at the helm.

He takes over from Somalian-born Swiss-International Ahmed Mohamed who left the job last February.

Mohamed, who is now the head of football in St Kitts and Nevis, held the position in Barbados from 2017 to 2021 and was the interim head coach during a one-year stint in 2018 before Russell Latapy’s appointment to the senior men’s national team in 2019.(AGB)
