Some of Barbados’ top track and field athletes will not be competing on home soil this weekend when the highly anticipated National Championships take place at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex.

Instead, the Athletics Association of Barbados (AAB) has selected a small group which is set to leave the island on Friday to participate at the Trinidad and Tobago National Championships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain.

Among the big names reportedly participating are reigning national champions Kuron Griffith and Shane Brathwaite. Record holder in the women’s 100-metre Tristan Evelyn, fellow sprinters Julian Forde and Jameel Walkes-Miller are also expected to be a part of the contingent.

It is unclear whether the island’s leading quarter-milers Sada Williams and Jonathan Jones will be joining the Barbados team in the twin-island republic. (AGB)
