Barbadian Olympic sprinter Mario Burke will have to produce a season’s best performance in the men’s 100-metres event at the Trinidad and Tobago National Championships this weekend to book a ticket to the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

All is at stake for the 25-year-old, who is set to compete in only his second 100 metres race for the year.

Burke, one of the island’s leading athletes, has been missing in action for most of 2022, with his lone time being 11.01 seconds on May 21 at Jax Track at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida, after he pulled up with cramp around the 30-metre mark.

He is one of several Barbadian athletes competing in the twinisland republic as opposed to at the Barbados National Championships at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex. (AG-B)
