One man has died and five other people suffered gun shot wounds in a shooting at an entertainment venue in St Philip, police said on Thursday.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. at Byers Boozie Bites on Long Bay Main Road when authorities responded to reports of a shooting at the location.

Police public affairs and communications officer, Inspector Rodney Inniss said patrons were attending a karaoke session at the venue when two men armed with guns entered and started shooting.

“This caused patrons to scamper for safety,” Inniss said. “At the end of the melee, one male was discovered dead a few yards away in a vehicle, which he was driving. His identity is yet to be formally verified and will be released when all protocols have been met.

“Five other persons presented gun shot injuries about various parts of their bodies. They were all treated by ambulance personnel who were summoned to the scene. They were later transported by a number of ambulances to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for medical treatment.”

Inniss said traffic was diverted traffic and officers were carrying out their investigations into the incident.

He appealed for any information that could assist police in their investigations into the matter, urging the public to call the District “C” police station at 416-8200 or 416-8204; police emergency hotline, 211; or the Oistins police station at 418-2612; or any other police station; or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIPS (1-800-8477).
