Stressing that someone had lost his life, a High Court judge sentenced confessed killer Dario Omar Catlyn to a starting sentence of 11 years in prison but later deemed that the time he had spent on remand would be his sentence.
Catlyn, of First Step Street, Ellerton, St George, was back in the No. 2 Supreme Court where he had pleaded guilty, at a previous Session of the Continuous Sittings, to unlawfully killing (manslaughter) 62-year-old Rudolph Knight, formerly of Blackmans Tenantry, St Joseph, on April 10, 2009.
He was originally arraigned with murdering the man but denied that count.
The matter was prosecuted by Senior State Counsel Oliver Thomas, while Angella Mitchell-Gittens appeared for Catlyn.
Justice Randall Worrell noted that Catlyn’s offence was so serious that it could only be dealt with by a period of incarceration. (HLE)
