Barbados’ national record holder Sada Williams produced a superb performance to storm to a new national record of 49.75 seconds and win bronze in the women’s 400 metres final at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Williams delivered a moment of history to run a lifetime best and capture the island’s second medal at this event, becoming the first Barbadian woman to do so. The old record was 50.11 seconds, set back in August at the Tokyo Olympics Games.
It was back in 2009 that Ryan Brathwaite won gold in the men’s 110m hurdles.
Olympic Champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo of The Bahamas won gold in a world leading time of 49.11 seconds and Dominican Republic’s Marileidy Paulino, the Olympic silver medallist, reprised that placing with a time of 49.60 seconds. (AGB)
