4x400M relay team finishes fourth

The Barbadian men finished fourth in 3 minutes 03.92 seconds in the 4×400 metres relay final at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The quartet of Miguel Nicholls, national record holder and 400m bronze medallist Jonathan Jones, Rasheeme Griffith and Kyle Gale were fifth initially, but got elevated after Jamaica were disqualified.

It was a season’s best time for the side and a valiant effort since Barbados is not known to pick athletes solely for relays at major meets. Jones and Gale competed in the individual 400m, with the latter reaching the semi-finals.

It was another brilliant run from Jones who moved up about four places to put the team in medal contention.

Trinidad and Tobago won gold in 3:01.29, while Botswana (3:01.85) secure silver and Kenya (3:02.41) bronze. (AGB)
