COVID-19 Update for August 9

There were 474 new COVID-19 cases, 197 males and 277 females, from the 1 291 tests carried out on Tuesday, August 9, by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

The cases comprised 67 people under the age of 18, and 407 who were 18 years and older.

The number of people in isolation facilities was 65, while 3 807 were in home isolation.

A 65-year-old man passed away due to the viral illness on Monday, August 8.

Additionally, the Coroner’s office reported eight COVID-19 related community deaths within the past two weeks.

As at August 9, there were 514 COVID-19 related deaths.

The public health laboratory has conducted 739 048 tests since February 2020, and recorded 96 350 COVID-19 cases (43 628 males and 52 722 females).

Under the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19, the number of people with at least one dose is 163 015 (71.4 per cent of the eligible population).

The number of fully vaccinated is 154 127 (56.9 per cent of the total population or 67.5 per cent of the eligible population). The eligible population represents those who are 12 years and older. (BGIS)
