UPDATE: Colombian drug-accused remanded

Colombian drug accused Oswald Rafael Acosta Aroca was remanded to prison after an appearance in the District B Magistrates Court this afternoon.

Aroca, 58, of Santa Marta, Colombia, was not required to plead to possession of 422.66 kilos of cannabis, having a traffickable quantity of the drug and possession with intent to supply on August 2. The drugs have an estimated street value of $3.381 million.

He was also not required to plead to arriving in Barbados by sea and disembarking without the consent of an immigration officer and entering by sea at a place other than at a port of entry between July 29 and August 2.

He was represented by attorney Shadia Simpson.

Magistrate Douglas Frederick remanded the accused to Dodds Prison until September 3 when he will reappear at court. (HLE)
