The Barbados Road Tennis Open Saturday night’s finals will see two perpetual opponents, Kim Holder and Sheldene Walrond, clashing again while the men’s battle for the $20 000 will see a new kid on the block, Shakeem Nurse, taking on No.1 Mark “Venom” Griffith.

Those finalists were decided in four contrasting matches played on Tuesday night on a spanking new court in the Wildey Gymnasium with about 2 500 fans enjoying the exchanges.

Holder lit the fuse with a close 25-23, 19-21, 21-16 win over Rachel Smith but it was 17-year-old Nurse who provided the explosions with a sublime victory over Dario Hinds 21-7, 21-11, 21-11.

Walrond, who enjoyed another birthday on Monday, surprisingly took three games to dismiss a very nervous Maudlyn Blunt 21-12, 17-21, 21-10 which gave the DJ a chance to play Lil Rick’s Happy Birthday. (KB)
