COVID-19 update for August 22

Health authorities reported that 280 new novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases were identified in Barbados on Monday.

According to a news release issued through the Barbados Government Information Service, 122 males and 158 females tested positive for the viral illness out of the 1 058 tests carried out by laboratories around the island.

The cases consisted of 46 young people under the age of 18, and the rest were adults, 18 years or older.

In addition, the authorities indicated that there were 73 people in government isolation facilities, while 2 270 were being monitored under home isolation.

The authorities also disclosed that 163 136 people (71.4 per cent of the eligible population) have received a single dose of a COVID-19 vaccine under the national vaccination programme for the illness.

Latest figures shared indicated that 154 285 people (56.9 per cent of the total population or 67.5 per cent of the eligible population) are now considered fully vaccinated.

The eligible population represents any individual 12 years or older.
