Flash flood watch ’til 6 p.m. for central parishes

Weather forecasters issued a flash flood watch for the central parishes in the island on Thursday up to 6 p.m. – but it may be terminated sooner if conditions warrant.

According to a weather alert from the Barbados Meteorological Service, a tropical disturbance in the central Atlantic has moved closer to the eastern Caribbean, resulting in a decrease in wind speeds across Barbados.

This has enabled localised activity to develop across the island.

Consequently, maximum rainfall accumulations of 25 to 50 millimetres in heavy to violent showers are expected mainly across the central parishes of the island.

A flash flood watch is issued when heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than six hours) may result in heavy flooding within the watch area.

It does not mean that flooding will occur, but it is possible.
