Sada Williams of Barbados finished second in the women’s 400 metres on Friday as the World Athletics Diamond League programme continued in Brussels, Belgium.

Williams, the Commonwealth champion and Worlds bronze medallist, ran a blistering turn to take the lead in the one-lap event, but faded down the stretch to clock 50.15 seconds.

It took a personal best 49.80 seconds from a fast-finishing Fiordaliza Cofil of the Dominican Republic to beat Williams.

Belgium’s Cynthia Bolingo set a new national record of 50.19 seconds to place third.

Jamaicans Candace McLeod and Stephenie McPherson were fifth and eighth, respectively, in 50.76 and 51.73. (SAT)
