Weather forecasters issued a flash flood watch at noon on Thursday for north-western districts in Barbados.

A light south-easterly wind regime, adequate moisture, and daytime heating are generating localised activity across north-western districts of the island, according to a weather bulletin from the Barbados Meteorological Service.

The bulletin added that accumulation of one to two inches of rainfall are forecast and this may result in flooding in the watch area.

Forecasters indicated that the flash flood watch will be terminated at 6 p.m. if conditions improve.

A flash flood watch is typically issued when heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than six hours) could result in flooding within the watch area. It does not mean that flooding will occur, but it is possible.
