COVID-19 update for September 15

Another 51 people have been detected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), health authorities in Barbados reported on Friday.

According to a news release issued through the Barbados Government Information Service, 18 males and 33 females – including 10 young people under the age of 18 – tested positive for the viral illness from the 323 tests carried out on Thursday, September 15, by laboratories across the island.

At the time of reporting, there were 37 people being treated for the illness in government isolation facilities, and another 325 people being monitored under the home isolation programme managed by the Ministry of Health & Wellness.

The authorities also indicated 37 people have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine under the national vaccination programme for the viral illness taking total number of people in this group to 163 547 people (71.6 per cent of the eligible population).

The total number of people now considered fully vaccinated rose by 30 to 154 558 (57 per cent of the total population or 67.7 per cent of the eligible population).

The eligible population is anyone 12 years and older.
