Beviny Payne will be competing as Miss Barbados in the first-ever edition of the Miss Cricket Carnival Pageant.

The pageant will take place in Guyana on Monday, September 26th at the National Cultural Centre at 8 pm. Payne said that after a lengthy period away from doing pageantry, partially due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she’s delighted to be back doing what she loves.

“As the years progressed, I always wanted to represent Barbados on a bigger stage and just continue to grow and live my dream. Going to Miss Universe was a huge deal for me and when that opportunity didn’t arise, I was distraught by it. After the Covid 19 pandemic, I decided to get back out there and do what I love and at the same time this opportunity arose so I felt like everything happened at the right time. I’m excited, kinda nervous but excited to be back doing pageantry and representing Barbados,” she said.

This pageant will be Payne’s seventh. She first started in a school pageant at Alexandra in 2014. From there in 2015 she won the Mr and Ms Talented Teen and competed in Miss Caribbean Talented Teen. Her best year for competing was in 2018 when she won both the Mr& Ms Barbados Caribbean and the Miss Caribbean United pageants. She also came 1st runner-up in Ms Universe Barbados 2019.

The Miss Cricket Carnival pageant has four segments: national costume, swimwear, talent, and formal wear & final questions. Her national costume is sponsored by Zulu International Barbados and has elements which will depict the golden beaches on the island. For the talent segment, she will be performing a spoken word poem titled Mother which is about Earth and the adverse effects humans have on it which have caused things such as global warming and climate change.(JC)
