Abandoned house burns

A derelict wood and wall home went up in smoke in 8th Ave Harts Gap on Monday.

Acting station officer Tony Scantlebury said he and eight officers, using two tenders, responded from Worthing and Bridgetown.

He expressed concern about such abandoned houses being fire and safety hazards, adding the situation could have been worse given the foliage surrounding the house and the gas bottle inside.

This was the second abandoned house in the avenue to burn this year. Back in April, the house next door also caught afire. (CA)
