Pakistan kept their Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final qualification hopes alive with a convincing 33-run (D/L method) win against South Africa at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Australia.

Led by Shadab Khan’s half century, Pakistan set a commanding total of 185-9 after 20 overs.

South Africa started well but bad timing proved to be the catalyst of their downfall. Two quick wickets falling just before the rain break left the Proteas chasing a reduced target of 142, but needing 73 runs from five overs. They would only manage 108-9 as Pakistan took wickets at regular intervals, qualification now down to the wire.

The Man of the match was Shadab Khan who scored 52 and took 2-16. His 20-ball 50 was the fourth fastest scored in a T20 World Cup.

Summarised Scores:

Pakistan 185 for 9 in 20 overs (Shadab 52, Iftikhar 51; Nortje 4-41). South Africa 108 for 9 in 14 overs (Bavuma 36; Afridi 3-14, Shadab 2-16). Pakistan won by 33 runs under the DLS method.
